Please read the following before make a booking or visiting us.
Every year between April to August, we experience certain climatic problems as a decrease in the temperature of the swimming pools and showers, breaks in the electricity supply, weakness in the radio telephone system and slippery icy road condition in the Lewis pass area.
The unstable temperature of the pools and showers are caused by lack of rainfall or sudden heavy falls in our valley. Because our bore depth is only 3 meters below the surface of the ground and the bore temperature is affected by rainfall, the water level of the Maruia River and the ambient temperature and atmospheric pressure on the day.
Our pools are totally natural, not diluted, not artificially heated nor re-circulated.
The average of the bore temperature is around 58-60℃ but can be fallen to 30℃ within a day. Our showers in the bathhouse and spas are heated via the heat exchanger, using hot springs water. Usually it returns to normal naturally in few days.
Our 160kw electricity supply is generated by a powered by creek water. Again this is totally dependent on how much rainfall we have at the water intake which is 400m above our facilities. All room heaters and hot cylinders are powered by this and are directly affected.
Our telephone system is a special, radio link via repeater aerials with solar panelled batteries. The closest aerial is 4 km away and if the sun is covered by clouds for a few days, we lose its signals and it becomes non functional.
Alternatively we have a satellite dish for the internet, this can be more reliable for contact with us.
The State Highway 7 is the main route to Maruia Springs, 2000ft above sea level and black ice is formed in shaded areas during winter months.
To avoid your disappointment, please double check, via our web site,
the weather, road and conditions of the pools on the day before visiting us.
Our Mission Statement is, “Totally Natural”.
The good news is, “Sandflies” are heading to their home during cooler months!
Thank you for reading this, we hope it will help you to understand the problems we occasionally experience in the middle of nowhere.
